بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In a dangerous precedent, and in a stance that is neither pleasing to Allah (swt) nor His Messenger (saw), nor should be acceptable to Muslims, let alone the members of the Council—scholars, sheikhs, and figures who define themselves as "the body authorized to issue regulations, decisions, and instructions necessary for organizing the religious affairs of Muslims..."—the Council issued a statement today, 25/4/2026, supporting the option of pursuing diplomatic negotiations to end the war with the Zionist entity! The statement justified this choice by saying: "Affirming the Taif Agreement and its implementation, both in letter and spirit, which the Lebanese people have agreed upon as the country's constitution and an inviolable national reference point... to which all vital issues and all other judgements is referred, and nothing else, in addressing major national issues..." It also stated: "Respecting the constitutional right of the President of the Republic to conduct negotiations for international treaties and agreements in consultation with the Prime Minister, based on the provisions of Article 52 of the Lebanese Constitution, and in his choice, along with the pillars of the state, to pursue diplomatic negotiations to end the war with the Zionist entity... at a time when all avenues for saving it from the inferno of this war have been closed..."! Is this how one of the most important affairs of Muslims in Lebanon is handled, a matter whose sanctity is a matter known by necessity in the Deen: negotiating with the usurping, occupying, criminal, and aggressive Jewish entity, which attacks Lebanon and others day and night with the support of America?!
So, what evidence from the Quran, the Sunnah, or any of the sources they indicate did you rely on?! Did the Messenger of Allah (saw), his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and the Muslims after them negotiate and make peace over occupied Muslim lands, acknowledging the occupier's right to remain and making peace with them?! Far be it from Him (saw) and his Companions to do such a thing! Does calling things by names other than their own, as you say, "the conduct of diplomatic negotiaations...", make them permissible and acceptable, when you know without a doubt that this is the gateway to peace and normalization with the Jewish entity?! Furthermore, is it appropriate for the Supreme Islamic Shariah Council to say about the Taif Agreement: "It is the arbiter and the reference point, and nothing else in vital issues..."?! What reference point have you left for the Shariah of Allah, the Exalted and Glorified?! How can you judge in this way?!
Members of the Supreme Islamic Shariah Council, we address you with heavy hearts over your stance. What message do you intend to convey to the Muslims of Lebanon today, as the highest religious authority? Do you want them to believe that you are saying that: peace and normalization—disguised as diplomatic negotiations—is permissible with the usurping Zionist entity? And what will you say to our people in Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings, for whom you weep day and night?
Members of the Supreme Islamic Shariah Council, you have legitimized negotiations with the Jews under constitutional pretexts, in a matter whose prohibition is known by necessity in the Deen (Islam)! What will you do if, in the future, the constitution empowers the pillars of power to repeal the Personal Status Law and abolish your “religious authority”?!
O members of the Supreme Islamic Shariah Council, fear Allah, fear Allah, by the covenant that Allah (swt) took from the people of knowledge:
[وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَاشْتَرَوْا بِهِ ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ]
“˹Remember, O Prophet˺ when Allah took the covenant of those who were given the Scripture to make it known to people and not hide it, yet they cast it behind their backs and traded it for a fleeting gain. What a miserable profit!” [Aal-i-Imran: 187].
If any of you who attended this meeting denounce this reprehensible act—and we know that some of you do—then let them declare it. For this is a matter of accountability before Allah, the Mighty, the All-Powerful, before it is a matter of accountability before the Muslims who might adhere to this fatwa of yours, which the statement indicates you all agree upon! No one among you will benefit from claims of national unity, sovereignty, or independence against the rule and law of Allah, the Exalted and Glorified. We are sincere and trustworthy advisors to you.
We in Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah of Lebanon find ourselves responsible before Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, if we do not clarify this position. We denounce this reprehensible act verbally and by written statements as long as you remain in this position and maintain this stance. We call upon the scholars of the Muslims to reject this position and disavow it.
[مَعْذِرَةً إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ]
“Just to be free from your Lord’s blame, and so perhaps they may abstain” [Al-A’raf: 164].
O Allah, we have conveyed the message, advised, and denounced. O Allah, bear witness.
