Detention for Mere Public Discussion about Islamic Shariah Principles in the Largest Democracy of the World

Police authorities from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu have reported the detention of six Muslims for carrying out activities of Hizb ut Tahrir (HT). The arrested persons include Dr Hameed Hussain, who holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Hussain's father Ahmed Mansoor and his brother Abdul Rehman, who is an Islamic Alim, and three others, Mohammed Maurice, Khader Nawaz Sherif and Ahmed Ali. All six men are natives of Chennai. The report described discussions and political activism in support of the Khilafah (Caliphate) ruling system, amongst people and social media, as unacceptable to the extent of invoking criminal and unlawful activities charges against the six men. In yet another episode in India, claimed as the largest democracy in the world, one can witness that discussion about Shariah principles related to political sphere of life, is dealt with as a crime. This is so despite no crime being committed, or even incited, by the six concerned. The actions of Modi’s government during the elections plainly depict the mala fide intent and the desperation of the Indian authorities to curb the political ideas of Islam. The authorities seek to intimidate the Muslims, to demonize these ideas and distance the Muslims from these ideas. The authorities seek to integrate the Muslims into corrupt, un-Islamic ideas. The India policy is in line with, and part of, the global campaign of the world powers against the return of Islam into the political sphere. The world at large is all too familiar about the inaction of the executive and judicial branches of this largest democracy. Its legislative arm makes xenophobic statements, invokes extra-judicial measures. It glorifies acts of terrorism and mob violence against Muslims.

Sectarian discrimination was evident when India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, campaigned for 2024 elections in Rajasthan. He provoked outrage of the public by making slanderous allegations that Congress will hand over the wealth of the nation to Muslims. He twisted the Congress manifesto that called for distribution of wealth to the poor. Sectarian discrimination evident when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath calls for ‘putting a bullet’ in the head of criminals, or punishing families of criminals by demolishing their homes, extra judicially. Sectarian discrimination was evident when India Home Minister Amit Shah ‘self-admitted’ participation in the Gujarat Massacre of 2002, when indicating what the BJP is capable of. Failure of democracies to uphold the law they themselves enact is far too evident not just in the largest democracy but in democracies of all shades, be it America, UK, in Europe, in Asia and the illegitimate Zionist entity. Their zeal to prevent insightful criticism of this failure makes it all the more perverse. Democracies punish ‘callers of change’ by wasting away their time in prison and the slow-process of law, hiding in a cloak of legitimacy. This is whilst dictatorships punish ‘callers of change’ just blatantly.

Hizb ut Tahrir (HT) will not tire from presenting the truth and call for the Khilafah system upon the method of the Prophethood despite the threats it faces under the man-made systems such as democracy and dictatorship. Hizb ut Tahrir is an Islamic political party founded with the objective to establish the Islamic Khilafah in the Muslim world. Hizb ut Tahrir confines it work to the Prophet’s (saw) method of intellectual, ideological and political struggle for the re-establishment of the Khilafah in the Muslim world. In countries where Muslims live as minorities, Hizb ut Tahrir works within the Muslim community, reminding them of the obligation of establishing the Khilafah and inviting them to facilitate its realization in the Muslim lands. For the over seven decades of its existence, Hizb ut Tahrir has never deviated from its intellectual political method. Despite the opposition, propaganda and false implications, Hizb ut Tahrir will continue to work to re-establish the Islamic Khilafah where Muslims and non-Muslims can live in peace and harmony under the system defined by Allah, The All Powerful, The Eternal, The Irresistible.

[قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ]
