Obituary of a Dawah Carrier
Ustadth the Poet of the Call to Islam, Abdul Sattar Hassan (Abu Khalil)
(Translated)

“Among the believers are men who have proven true to what they pledged to Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their pledge ˹with their lives˺, others are waiting ˹their turn˺. They have never changed ˹their commitment˺ in the least.” [Al-Ahzab 33:23]

With hearts full of faith and contentment with the decree of Allah Almighty, Hizb ut Tahrir in the Wilayah of Lebanon mourns to the Muslims the loss of the dawah carrier and its poet, who worked to resume the Islamic way of life:

Ustadth Abdul Sattar Hassan (Abu Khalil)

He passed away this morning, Sunday, the 23rd of Dhu al-Qi’dah 1447 AH, corresponding to 10 May 2026 CE, in Tripoli, Lebanon due to terminal illness.

We in Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Lebanon, as we mourn this towering figure of the Da'wah, mourn a sincere pen, a defender of Islam, its rulings, virtues, and lofty values, through his poems that will remain in the memory of preachers, people of literature, and thinkers. We mourn the words "O Banner of Truth, Rise and Fly," "O Gaza, Have Patience," "Darkness Has Fallen," "The Sun of the Khilafah (Caliphate)," and other words that he himself, may Allah have mercy on him, chose to keep few in number but great in meaning. These words will remain, Allah willing, a testament to Abu Khalil's call and his carrying it with his tongue, heart, and pen. They will be, Allah willing, letters of light with Him with whom no reward is lost. And, Allah willing, they will be words we raise high on the day the banner of truth waves proudly in the Khilafah Rashidah (rightly guided Caliphate), established according to the methodology of the Prophethood, for which Abu Khalil departed this life working, a faithful guardian of Islam.

With his passing, we have lost a caller to Allah Almighty, a man who remained steadfast in the face of life's storms, faithful to his principles, sincere in his mission, and great in his creativity and humility. Indeed, the heart grieves, and the eye sheds tears, and we are truly saddened by your departure, Abu Khalil. We say only what pleases our Lord:

[إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ]

“Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return” [Al-Baqarah 2:156]. O Allah, reward us for our loss and replace it with something better. To Allah belongs what He takes and what He gives, and everything with Him has an appointed term. We ask Allah Almighty to envelop him in His vast mercy, to grant him a spacious place in Paradise with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous—and how excellent a company they are! And to inspire us, his family, relatives, and loved ones with patience and solace.

[إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ]

“Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return” [Al-Baqarah 2:156]
