Statements by the Central Bank Governor in Aden Reveal the Reality of the Economic War in light of the Anglo-American Conflict on Yemen
(Translated)
In an interview with the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden, Dr. Mohamed Zemmam, by the Yemeni newspaper “Al-Sharq al-Awsat” about the economic situation in Yemen and the difficulties it faces, the Governor shifted his information towards Britain, saying that its Central Bank surprised its Yemeni counterpart with political requirements in exchange for reopening the frozen account of Yemen, but preferred not to mention those requirements, saying:
“Unfortunately, while the UK is calling for, and is keen to help Yemen and warning of a famine, it is the one preventing the Central Bank of Yemen from using its money. We have a bank account with the Bank of England in which the funds belong to Yemen, the account was frozen for previous circumstances, and after the return of the Central Bank and recognition from all countries, and opening most of its accounts including the bank account with the Federal (Reserve) in New York. After completing all the requirements through offices by May 2018, then waiting for the Central Bank's diagnosis mission by the International Monetary Fund, we were surprised by a letter dated 3 October 2018 from the Bank of England requesting political requests that have nothing to do with banking, and its only aim is to prevent Yemen from using its own money to buy the necessary food for the Yemeni people.”
He also criticized the lead of the British UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, who revealed early on his lack of interest in the economic affairs because of his efforts in the political work, and said that his team handed the Yemeni Central Bank a paper contrary to the independence of the bank and its laws. Zemmam said: “For Mr. Griffith to become convinced of the importance of the economy and its role in alleviating the suffering of people is a positive development. He himself asked to meet with me (previously) and literally said that economic issues are outside the framework of his work because his work is related to the political aspect. We have no cooperation with the Envoy because it is the responsibility of the leadership and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, when the IMF stipulated that members of the Central Bank’s San’aa Branch should be included in the Bank team involved in the task of diagnosing the current status of the Bank, in order to prepare a project to raise the efficiency of the bank and in all governorates of the Republic; thus a meeting was held to prepare a technical meeting between the leadership of the Central Bank and members of its working group in Sana'a. All the arrangements were made, including the agenda for a meeting which will be under the supervision of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The Central Bank has received a paper proposed by the Office of the Envoy that went against all the arrangements made and even presented points contrary to the law and independence of the Central Bank, at a time that everyone is keen to respect them, we are ready to continue cooperating under the law of the Central Bank and the independence of its decision”.
We had already shown that there is an economic war coinciding with the military war that is taking place in Yemen in the context of the Anglo-American conflict on the country and its wealth. Britain, which works as the UN envoy to Yemen for its own benefit, is exerting economic pressure on the Houthis whom America wants to involve in the rule of Yemen. While the International Monetary Fund in solving the economic crisis by the unification of the Central Bank in both Aden and Sanaa and neutralizing the economy from the conflict, and the goal is to ease the pressure on the Houthis, and so is the case of the colonists, regardless of their race, do not care about the people of Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, the British agent, is preventing the Yemeni people from exporting oil and gas and operating the ports in the hope that the Yemeni Riyal will collapse more, resulting in the Houthis surrender or return to negotiations. This coincides with the military war waged by Britain through its agents (the UAE and Hadi) against the Houthis especially in the city of Hodeidah, whose minaret is the last outlet for the Houthis. The governor, Mohamed Zemmam – ally of the United States, said that the UAE has not deposited any funds in the central bank in Aden, while he praised the role of Saudi Arabia and its deposit of $2 billion and its sum of $200 million. While exposing Britain and its malice, he seeks, in return, to allow the Bank and the International Monetary Fund - the two colonial instruments of America - to control the economy and wealth of the country, especially that the proposals of the World Bank previously under the Government of Basandoa in the determination of the dose in oil derivatives was an excuse for the Houthis to control the country.
O People of Yemen! The colonists and their agents have gathered against you and your country. They have fed you fear and hunger, and have turned your country into destruction and your life into hell, so do not be fooled by their humanitarian aid and the crumbs they offer, nor by their organizations, which beautify the face of the colonizer and shed its poison on you. And work to stop the fighting between you and prevent the colonists from your country and your wealth, and cut the hand of the conflicting traitors from amongst you, whose only desire is to please their masters and maintain a position which their colonizer master and the UN throws their way whenever they want. So will you not work for the establishment of the Khilafah Rashidah (righteous Caliphate) on the method of the Prophethood, which will restore for you the ruling of Islam, and you will then achieve through it what is obliged of you to please your Lord and bring happiness to your Ummah?
