Nafsiya Reflections: Rajab and Us

Assalamu Alaikum and welcome to another episode of Nafsiyah Reflections....’ Rajab and us...’

The month of Rajab is mentioned in a Hadith in Al Bukhari, as one of the four sacred months in which Allah swt has prohibited fighting. It begins the season of ibadah in preparation for Ramadan.

The famous scholar Abu Bakr Warraq rahim Allah, the uncle of the famous hadith compiler Al Tirmidhi said, “Rajab is a month of cultivation, Shaban is month of irrigating the fields, and the month of Ramadan is a month of reaping and harvesting.

However today, the month of Rajab comes at a time where the ummah is embroiled in a battle with Muscular Liberalism; meaning, she is being forced to contend with ideas and values contrary to Islam, pressurised to accept the reformation of its divine guidance, and faces consequences if these are rejected.

This trend is apparent in the western agenda to promote LGBTQ to the Muslim communities and has become the standard by which secular liberals approve the Muslim presence in society. In British schools, same gender relationships and transgender behaviour is promoted actively to children as young as 6 in a bid to accept alternative lifestyles, inclusivity and in combating prejudice.

In the US, Muslims face a backlash for rejecting this lifestyle and are compelled to show solidarity for LGBTQ issues if they wish to counter the Islamophobia they themselves face. Throughout the Muslim world, the western media and popular culture drip fed to the masses has glamorised lewd and liberal behaviour and made such lifestyles acceptable and even enviable to some.

The absence of Islam has seen humanity reach a level of depravity, unparallelled in the history of mankind. Societies devoid of taqwa based on man made secular liberal democratic constructs where man is the legislator, have opened the gates to every immorality in the name of freedom, letting into society a torrent of behaviours that harm individuals and communities.

We in the West live amongst a mutation of the already rotten idea of sexual freedom, which now allows primary school age children to choose their own sexuality and even gender, and opt to undergo surgery to achieve this.

Today, Muslims are caught between many different kufr agendas; the wars in the Muslim lands leave many Muslims feeling helpless and in despair.. unable to understand the vital issues that require our attention and to know the correct actions to undertake collectively.

The intelectual onslaught of muscular liberal policies is used against Muslims to create a volatile reaction that adopts pragmatic thinking in the hope of improving our condition, like partaking in state politics - but instead we fall into secularism and create new problems for the community, like supporting freedom by default... Or that we reform core aspects of Islam under the pretext of using wisdom, as with the importance of Islamic ruling system, or dress code or segregation... but instead fall into shirk or overstep the bounds of Islam completely, by disavowing or rejecting ayaat of Quran and ahadith.

All of capitalism’s Machiavellian attempts have the same purpose - to eliminate what remains of Islam from the hearts and minds of the Muslims.

The solutions to the multitude of problems the Muslim ummah faces today lies in the type of politics we call to. The west, every problem we have sought to address through secular politics has intensified. For example, when we as Muslims tried to defend our hijab as a form of ‘modesty’ rather than a ‘hukum shari’ - the western politicians used this against us to delegitimize our children from practicing to wear the hijab, by saying that “if modesty is the objective, a hijab on a younger girl ‘sexualises’ her” - and therefore “Islam sees the woman as no more than an object of gratification”...

This cannot be further from the truth!!! Islam honours the woman unlike any other way of life.... but the insistence of some Muslims in maintaining that hijab is for modesty and our freedom, removed from the minds of many women that it is a fard and an obedience to Allah swt.. nothing more. Likewise, when we as an ummah looked for western political solutions to the ongoing wars upon the Muslim countries and called for a mere change of politician - rather than a change in the system that governs our lands, we saw the tyrannical regimes bolstered through billions of dollars worth of funding and military grade arms. We saw puppet leaders supported and their actions approved... and instead we saw a vociferous backlash onto the Muslim living in the west, which questioned our loyalties, criminalised core parts of our Deen and saw fit to detach us from the wider Muslim ummah.

Not to mention, the numerous attacks on Muslims in these so-called ‘free’ societies - the most recent being the horrific event in Christchurch, New Zealand.

So the question remains - where is the shield of this Ummah? where is the Imam, the Khaleef who will unify and protect the global body of Muslims? The significance of the political aspect of Islam cannot be understated. It is the lens through which we should view all matters, and the vehicle with which we should solve all our problems. Neglecting it removes the possibility of making lasting and holistic change.

Today most of the Muslim world is in dire need of the honour and security that Islamic ruling brings. Every nation suffering from food shortage, homelessness and poor sanitation can be improved almost immediately, simply through a redistribution of resources and adequate funding.

Likewise, if the leader of any given Muslim nation becomes sincere to Allah swt, he will be at least able to restore the honour and dignity to the word of Allah, by the articulation and explanation of Islam to the world. If such a leader was to go further and threaten repercussions unless colonisers retreat from the Muslim lands, demand the release of prisoners and end the financial stranglehold that western economic policies have over the Ummahs wealth ... this Ummah would have a good chance of breaking its shackles, reviving itself and progressing inshaAllah.

The Ummah needs ideological political change, and to enable that we need to change our mode of thinking to one where we collectively reject secularism! we need to understand the inherent failure within Capitalism!... we need to trust that Allah sent us a superior system of life for mankind

This rajab - we must understand that our solution lies in the establishment of Islam as a system... one that deals with not just our individual affairs and ibadah, but our economic, social, judicial and foreign affairs. A system that will appoint a single ruler to unite the armies to respond to protect the sacred blood of our Ummah, wherever she is. A holistic system which governs all our affairs, as is in the reminder from Allah swt in Surah An-Nisa, verse 65:

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ حَتّٰى يُحَكِّمُوۡكَ فِيۡمَا شَجَرَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوۡا فِىۡۤ اَنۡفُسِهِمۡ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيۡتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوۡا تَسۡلِيۡمًا‏

But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.

May Allah swt hasten the return of this righteous system, the Khilafah on the way of the prophethood,and make this Rajab be the last Rajab without our shield and protection. ameen
