In last year's presidential election, former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev nominated Sooronbay Jeenbekov on behalf of the Social Democratic Party. Jeenbekov was a close friend of Atambayev when he worked for almost a year as prime minister until he became president.

 The Kyrgyz government continues attempts of solving economic corruption crimes of the previous ruling establishment. Revealing crimes of the previous ruling political figures, the government is as if trying to cover existing debauched climate in the current government system.

Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are planned for the end of 2017. This time the elections might create strong political tensions in the country. Despite that the Constitution does not allow Atambaev to stay for the next term, he tries to keep his team in power.
